Secondary French Immersion (8-12)
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Secondary French Immersion is an excellent opportunity for students to continue their French Language education in Grades 8 to 12. Students receive a minimum of 50% of their instruction in French in grades 8 to 10, which includes a rigorous French Language Arts program. Grade 11 students receive a minimum of 25% of their instruction in French, while in grade 12, they need to take at least one course in French Language Arts. This program is designed to help students improve their French language skills and gain a deeper understanding of French culture.
By the end of Grade 12, students completing the French Immersion program receive a bilingual graduation certificate. This certificate is a great asset to have, as it demonstrates a high level of proficiency in both French and English, which can be very advantageous in today's globalized world. In addition, students who complete this program often have a competitive edge in pursuing post-secondary education or employment opportunities that require bilingualism.

WAYS TO SUPPORT FRENCH IMMERSION LEARNING AT HOME
- Maintain a Positive Attitude: Encourage a positive learning mindset by supporting, praising, and sharing your child's French language efforts. Show enthusiasm and confidence to motivate your child in sharing their learning experiences.
- Assist with Homework: Set up a dedicated study space and establish regular routines for completing homework. Encourage your child to read regularly in both French and their home language. Inspire your child to explore various types of texts, including magazines, flyers, informational books, picture books, graphic novels, and novels in French.
- Promote Involvement: Encourage your child to engage in French and English activities beyond the classroom, such as cultural events, music, and educational programs. Dine at a local French restaurant or check out the French section at your public library. Stream popular shows in French, and think about adding French subtitles for an added boost.
- Highlight the Importance of Writing: Emphasize the significance of writing for communication, including letters, notes, lists, greeting cards, emails, and texts.
